Ice Cream Sandwich Launch Delayed

Google and Samsung mysteriously pulled the plug Friday along the supposed release of a new version of the Mechanical man OS encipher called Chalk Cream Sandwich (ICS).

The new release of Android is highly anticipated because it is expected to wed the smartphone version of the operating system, called Gingerbread, and the pad of paper flavor, called Honeycomb.

An event billed as "Samsung Mobile Unpacked" was scheduled past Google and Samsung for succeeding Tues at the CTIA show in San Diego where ICS and a new Samsung phone linear it were predicted to represent unveiled. However, the companies have canceled the event.

"Samsung and Google decide to postpone the untried product announcement at CTIA Fall," the companies said in a statement. "We agree that it is just not the right time to annunciate a new product. New date and venue will be not far announced."

According to a Google spokesperson, the event was cancelled out of respect for Steve Jobs' passing.

Plane with the time lag, the companies still have plenty of time to fulfill Google Administrator Chairman Eric Schmidt's prognosticate that ICS testament be released in the October/November time frame.

The companies' declaration coincides with release of a picture supposedly showing the new Samsung ICS phone in action. The phone, referred to past some Mechanical man watchers as the Link Prime of life surgery Galaxy Link, doesn't have whatsoever physical or capacitive buttons. Instead, they've been replaced by on-sieve icons. In addition, the appearance of widgets on the gimmick is replaceable to their appearance in Honeycomb.

Although Google has kept its cards around its vest about ICS, a number of things have been reported about it.

Widgets will equal richer and resizable, as they are in the tablet variant of Humanoid.

More multitasking will be added to the system and the OS will be open source.

The scheme will cost tailored to take advantage of devices that exercise the Texas Instrument's OMAP cut off.

As with any Android upgrade, what Android devices will be entitled for the brand-new system testament remain with the manufacturers, but two good bets for the upgraded OS are the Samsung Nexus S and the Motorola Xoom.
