How To Use An Ulu Knife

Each ulu is custom made and unique. Cut from a single piece of recovered lumber mill high carbon saw bract steel. Tough and strong modern carbon steel. We have been making custom ulus for xx years.

The patinas on our custom ulus are a grade of protective oxidation. Effectively sealing the steel against rust. A flake of actress piece of work. Easier to polish them up on a auto. We get out the patinas and temper colours untouched on the finished blades created from the differential clay hardening and the differential atmosphere. The ulu pocketknife is an ancient tool. A traditional Inuit Adult female'southward pocketknife design some 4,500 yr old. We make the sheaths by hand out of 8 oz. saddle leather and saddle stitch with a fillet sandwiched between the front and back pieces of leather protecting the sew from the knife edge.

The blade is made from recovered high carbon steel cutting from lumber mill saw blade.  The one/4" steel is hand forged with a loftier bevel going up into a 1/4 inch thick tough stem. Hardened and differentially tempered for toughness and an edge that holds.
The handle scales are held with threaded stainless steel or brass pins. This is a strong and tough tool designed for the back country.

The sheath is hand made from 8 oz. leather.

Double saddle stitched by hand. A fillet is sewn between the layers of leather protecting the hand stitching from the razor border of the ulu.
Rivets are placed forth the edge and rounded corners for reinforcement.
We've added a braided lanyard to the sheath to tie to your pack. Nosotros can tool in a motif on the sheath. Examples are in the gallery. The motifs and/or initials are included.
